Bad Internet Color
« on: October 29, 2004, 02:24:22 PM »
In my amature attempt to clean up spyware, I believe that I deleted some important files from either Windows 2000 or IE6.  I get distored color on web pages.  Text is fine but pics are barely visible.  I don't know if it was a dll file or hkey file.   Unfortunately, I can't find my Windows CD to repair or reinstall the operating system.  Any ideas of which files I likely deleted?  It may help to know that my dsl connection gives me a message that it is best run with 16-bit high resolution.  When I try to adjust the colors in the control pannel, it shows that it's already set on 16 color and that is the only option available.   Do I need to go repurchase Windows 2000 and reinstall or can I find the missing files?   THANKS!

Umm, without you knowing what .dll file you deleted or what registry keys you deleted you may be in trouble without the cd
The .dll, you may be able to check out
This small utility
Restoration 2.5.14

Save it to a floppy if possibe and run it from there

As far as your reg entry, did you make a backup of your registry beforehand?
Do you know what key you removed?

About your 16 bit colors
Sounds like your Video card drivers are corrupt, may be from you, I'm not sure
Check the makers of your video card for latest drivers and installation instructions

If that get you going, post me back a hijackthis log for help with your spyware
If you let me know what reg entry you removed and possibly it's replaceable, I may be able to write you a script to put it back if it was needed

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?
