TCP Optimizer.exe progran from SpeedGuide.net
« on: June 23, 2004, 09:21:46 PM »
I ran TCOOptimizer and it changed some registery settings.  Here is what I have done from the advice given to me at the Novell Client forum.

I ran the TCP Optimizer.exe progran from SpeedGuide.net and after I rebooted I got the following errors from my login script.

Your current context is bigdog
User: mike Context: bigdog
Your current tree is: REDMAPLE
You are attached to server BFCUHOST.
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-720: This utility could not add NWLANGUAGE=English
to the local environment variables.
Drive F: = BFCUHOST_SYS: \
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed.
    [ROOT INS S1:=SYS:PUBLIC]
The error code was 9002.
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed.
    [ROOT INS S2:=SYS:PUBLIC\WIN32]
The error code was 9002.
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed.
    [INS S3:=C:\]
The error code was 9002.

I tried to restore the settings but I got the same thing. How can I correct this? I assume that it is a reistry setting but it could be the login scritp since it is the same script I used for Windows 98 but it ran fine all this week until I ran the TCP Optimizer so it points to that more so.

The drives all seem to map and I dont seem to have functional problems.

Welcome to the club <g>

TCP Optimizer for some reason messes up the security on the HKCU\Volatile Environment Registry key.

Fire up RegEdt32.exe, goto the HKCU windows, highlight "Volatile Environment", then From the toolbbar, Security -> Permissions.

The Current User ID should have full control.
The Administrators group should have full control.
The SYSTEM Group should have full control.
The RESTRICTED group should have readonly.

I only have 2 items there. Administrators and System. They both were unchecked and I checked full control but when I reboot I still get the error and when I look at the registry they are both unchecked. They wont save. Is there a trick?

Any help on saving the registry settings?

- after setting the permissions click on advanced
- uncheck the first checkbox (apply permissions to this object)
- check the second checkbox (reapply permissions and ...)

dunno if my english is correct, i got a dutch version over here http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
