multiple hijackers! Can someone please help?
« Reply #20 on: February 03, 2005, 11:53:11 AM »
Yes please

EDIT>>I'm just stepping out, as mentioned that BHO is not doing no harm, I just want to know why it won't remove from Hijackthis

By the way, here are the instructions for uninstalling Stopzilla
http://www.stopzilla.com/support/help/ADDITIONAL%20INFO.htm

I'm only asking that you uninstall it because it looks like it may have got corrupt with the infection
you can reinstall it later if you want it
Seeing as you paid for it, I will assume that you want it  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Hi!

Well, I followed the steps you outlined, and I still cannot get rid of that BHO file.  I did uninstall StopZilla prior to trying to fix the file.  Anyway, just tried to fix it in hjt to no avail - log is below.

If you don't think it is an issue, I'm fine w/ it.  Computer seems much better already, however I am kind of scared to run IE!

I'll be out for a couple of hours, and will check back when I get in.

Thanks again!

« Reply #23 on: February 03, 2005, 12:56:45 PM »
Yah, can't seem to figure out why Hijackthis shows that BHO with no file
It's an issue around the Net

Did you try using Spybot to remove it?

If you install IE-Spyad and SpywareBlaster you should have a safer experience with
IE
I see you have Firefox installed, I wouldn't be without it http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

If you have any questions about IE-Spyad or SpywareBlaster feel free to ask

If you decide not to reinstall Stopzilla and need a free Popup blocker
You could try the Google Toolbar for IE
Not needed for Firefox
Also for Realtime protection against Spyware, you could try
SpywareGuard
If you decide not to reinstall Stopzilla

For extra protection in Spybot
Open Spybot>>Click Immunize>>OK>>Immunize at the top
Do this after every update

You seem to be up to date on Windows updates now, good move
Make sure you visit at least once a month and check for Latest Critical updates
I don't recommend the recommended unless you really want them

EDIT>>I see these in your log
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [STOPzilla] "C:\Program Files\STOPzilla!\Stopzilla.exe" /autorun

O16 - DPF: {CA034DCC-A580-4333-B52F-15F98C42E04C} (Downloader Class) - https://www.stopzilla.com/_download/Auto_In...ller/dwnldr.cab

You can fix them with Hijackthis
If you have no intention of reinstallation>>Up to you

One that I don't like running>>Personal preference
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe
Real Player's updater>>Not needed on startup
If you decide to disable it
I shut it down in the Task manager first
Than navigate to realsched.exe and rename it to realsched.old
Have hijackthis fix this entry
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Restart the computer

Personally, I use Sygates on my machine

But take a look and see what you decide on, you only need one

All of these have free versions
Sygate Personal Firewall

Zone Alarm by Zonelabs

Kerio Personal Firewall
