Hi,

My HP 7100+ CDRW recently turned into a coaster factory, and I\'ve been looking for replacements.  There seems to be no doubt that Plextor make some of the best burners, hands down.  I am especially interested in the 12/10/32a which seems to be affordable.  However, what about SCSI vs IDE here?  Yes, I know that SCSI offloads the CPU, blah blah, but with BURN-proof, isn\'t IDE more than adequate, especially since I tend to just let the sucker write away while I\'m doing something else?

What about brands other than Plextor?

Any thoughts, anybody?

I have the plextor scsi 121032s , no problems at all .
Data transfer rate 20mb/s synchronous (same as a scsi 2 harddisk) , and plextor  8/2/20s ,
data transfer 10mb/s synchronous , but as you say more expensive than the atapi/ide writers .The advantage with scsi you mentionned in your message (no cpu usage) .
I  suppose , if you are not burning lots of cds and do not have scsi harddisks a scsi  cdrw is a luxury but then if you like a bit of perfection it adds to your computer\'s performance
