You must Redownload Hijackthis, backups are going to be created, when we empty your temp folders all backups will be lost

Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
Save it to that new folder

After that is done, reconfigure Windows to Show Hidden Files and Folders
* Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Also, know how to start in safe mode in advance, it's a required step
I supplied a link below if your unsure of the steps
I'll prompt you when you need to start in safe mode

Print the rest of this out, or save it to a Notepad file on your desktop

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Process Manager
Kill these processes if still running
C:\WINDOWS\System32\plfnsn.exe
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
Make sure you look this over and check them all

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe,

O2 - BHO: ZServObj Class - {00000000-C1EC-0345-6EC2-4D0300000000} - C:\WINDOWS\ZServ.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xwulibvojrom] C:\WINDOWS\System32\plfnsn.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SA] C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smsvc] C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\smsvc.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

O16 - DPF: {1954A4B1-9627-4CF2-A041-58AA2045CB35} (Brix6ie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/1268/ftp.../v6/brix6ie.cab

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/271304a91339adf28f05/netzip/RdxIE6.cab

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/4019/ftp...23/cpbrkpie.cab

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
YES and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer into SAFE MODE

Find and delete these files or folders if they exist
C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe <--this file
C:\WINDOWS\ZServ.dll <--file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\plfnsn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\smsvc.exe

C:\Program Files\WindowsSA <--this folder

Restart back to Normal mode

Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

It's important to update your version of Ad-Aware
Please Uninstall Ad-Aware 6.0 from the Add/Remove programs
Restart if prompted
Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
When you Install Ad-Aware it may Update and start running a scan

Perform a Full system scan
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer back to Normal mode to finish the cleaning process

Post back with a fresh hijackthis log afterwards

Could you also open Spybot
Click on HELP>>ABOUT
Let me know Spybot version and Latest detection update date

Let me know what you think...if I need to do anything else!  When I do a search of the C drive, I still am getting a zerv.inf  "setup information" 1KB - just delete?

I take that back - all the zserv. stuff is still there - .cab, .dll etc.  Should I have emptied the trash while in safe mode?

Argh!!

Can you restart in safe mode and ensure that this folder is gone
C:\Program Files\WindowsSA <--this folder

Can you run another scan with Hijackthis and fix this line
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SA] C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

Remember to do it with all other windows closed

Run Windows CleanUp in safe mode, this will also remove the contents of the recycle bin

Restart your computer back to Normal mode

Post back a fresh hijackthis log

I'm not sure what this is related to
zerv.inf

I think you meant ZServ.inf
By all means, delete it in safe mode before running Windows cleanup

EDIT>>remove these also if found
ZServ.dll, zserv.cab

Just for a double check, when your back in Normal mode

Can you download and save to desktop
VX2 finder.exe
Open it and Click the
"Click to Find VX2.BetterInternet"
When it's done scanning click the "Make log"
and post it

VX2 finder came back clean, you can manually delete it from the desktop

I see your running NoAds
Are you just using it to prevent popup ads?

Windows XP SP2 also has a built in popup blocker for IE
As well as the Google toolbar

I also notice this
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe

Your not running the latest version of Sun Java
I would recommend you update

Here's what I did
Go to this site
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Manually download the full Install to desktop (Offline Installation)
Access your Add/Remove Programs and Remove the version your running now
Restart the computer once removed
Install the latest version
Restarted again
As I said, I just have better luck doing it this way
You may find that the update feature in the Control Panel
Java Plugin works also
It's a fair size download, but decide which way your more comfortable with
I just downloaded the newest version
On cable it took me less than a minute>> 15.4mb

Personally, I disable the Autoupdate feature, never seems to work that well http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
I just check manually

Before installing the latest Java (which is recommended) to keep secure
You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free! or IE-SPYAD2.EXE Free!

Regular IE-Spyad for the individual user or IE-Spyad 2 for global protection(All users) on your computer
You only need one or the other

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

Thank you so much!
