OK basically when ever I read Microsofts recomended specs for any product I laugh, a 133Mhz for Windows 2000 please, what they should say is, yes windows 2000 will work but it will run so slow you will have died before it even boots up anyway my point, id like peoples feedback, i have just had a system built to the following specs and am planning to install Windows 2000 Pro, now are these specs gonna give me a comfatable time in windows or will it be like a snail.

1Ghz AMD Athlon CPU + Motherboard
128 MB SDRAM
20 GB Hard Disk (w2k boot one)
32 MB 3D graphics

Please post feedback, thanks

RAM is so cheap, go for 256 or even better 512.  Just don\'t get the very generic stuff, you want quality RAM with that Athlon.  128MB would be ok for win2k, but you\'d be a bit more comfortable with 256.  And with XP almost out, you\'d want even more memory.

You don\'t say what type of video card, just that it\'s 32MB.  Hopefully it\'s a card that\'s still supported, so you\'ll keep getting driver updates for it.

Well actually im planning on getting another 256MB ram added in about 3 months. Basically im 16 at the mo, and I have what some people call a non-technological father. He thinks that paying £400 to have my new system at these specs is expensive but then again he doesnt understand the system works and stuff.

He is also one of these fathers who is cautious with money, dont know why, its no problem for us but still its in his nature. So to ease the blow to him I planned two convienent upgrades, one now, one in three months when I get some more stuff added that way the two seperate events won\'t give me or him grief.

Its intresting though, he has a hobby building Motorbikes and selling them, he has one himself, I went with him once to buy one part, he spent £2000 on one part and didnt even flinch. Then again maybe thats because he understands the parts for his hobby, but doesnt understand the cost upgrades incure.

Ok I took your advice, I have just contacted the guy who is building my new system and have had the Ram changed from 128MB to 386MB. Think that would be ok.

My mobo will only support 384 (and only a max of 128 dimms for example MAX would be 3x128), but im using a 256+64=320mb, which works fine-i think my mobo thinks that the 256 is two 128\'s hehe. I\'ve mixed pc133 and pc100 and all seems to be okay, the pc100 is good quality (cl2=100mhz, cl3=125mhz), aye! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
