Dear thetechguide,
My computer has obviously been infected with some form of spyware or hijacker, and through a multitude of scans, I have been unable to remove this problem.  Adds pop-up around ever 10-30 seconds while no explorer (AVANT) is running.  I used to have the CSW msconfig bug but I used the CSW shredder to delete it, I hope, I also replaced the msconfig.exe file in the prefetch folder with the 'actual' file as was directed by CSW chronicles.  However i was unable to delete the regestries they directed because I was unable to find them.  Furthermore, I used to have the prutct file on my computer, but i also deleted that.  I am not sure that any of this has worked effectively because there are still problems that prevent my easy usage of this computer.  Your help would be greatly appreciated!  Here is my hijackthis.log file:

Can you please download and save to desktop Elite.zip
UNZIP the contents to desktop so you will now have Elite.reg on the desktop
We'll need this shortly

Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

RESTART your computer into Safe mode
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is bootin up

In safe find and delete these files if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\system\ccgeavsi.exe <--file
C:\windows\system32\eliteswy32.exe <--file

Double click on Elite.reg and allow it to merge to the registry

Restart back to Normal mode

Access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

Post back a fresh hijackthis log afterwards

Print this out or save too a Notepad file on the desktop

Reboot back into safe mode

Look for and delete any of these folders and delete if found
C:\WINDOWS\EliteBar
C:\WINDOWS\EliteToolBar
or this one
EliteSideBar


Look for these files and delete them if found
C:\Winupdate.exe
C:\Ed.exe.
and this one
C:\windows\system32\eliteswy32.exe

Take a look for any of these files in your C:\Windows\System32 folder
or your C:\Windows folder and remove if found
You may not find them, but take a look, there are many but they shouldn't be hard to track down as they should all be in about the same location

thanks again!! i wasn't able to find any of the win---32.exe files in the systems or systems 32 folder.  I also couldn't find the winupdate.exe file or the ed.exe file.

Looks good, how's everything?

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Wow!! awesome! thanks a bunch- currently there are no bugs at all!  Thankyou for responding very quickly and helping me!  It was so much easier when you helped then trying to read other forums and better then spending a bunch of minutes trying to run spysweeper or spybot to kill them!! Thankyou for the help!!
