Thanks for the info Questolo -- here it is.
« on: April 03, 2005, 12:23:04 PM »
Hey Questolo. I saw your note, registered and read the info.

Whenever I launch Explorer I get an about:blank homepage. Whenever I go to another site I get pop-up windows that seem to be generated from my machine but grabbing content off the web. Zonealarm flags a program crsj.exe tries to get internet access, but I may have fixed that.

You will notice a lot of "yyieb" crap in the R1. I removed all that and it was all reinstalled with different names. It had another name last time. The second BHO was also reinstalled with a new name.

Finally, it keeps adding a "Sites about" folder and some porn site links to my favorites every time I delete them.

Thanks for your help!!

Here's my log:

Still some work to do

===Download a few tool please
First could you download and save to Desktop CWShredder.exe from my signature below
Don't run it yet

===Download to desktop About:Buster.zip
by RubbeR Ducky
Unzip the contents to desktop, a folder will be placed on your desktop
Open it and run About:buster.exe
Click the Update Button and check for updates, if any, download them
Then close it for now, we'll need this later

===Download and UNZIP to desktop Cwsserviceremove.zip
So you have cwsserviceremove.reg on the desktop
[attachment=108:attachment]

===Could you next
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Next: Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
and hit Enter
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- Network Security Service

Double click on it--- STOP the service--
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled

===Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc Tools Section>>Open "Delete an NT Service"
Copy and Paste or Type the next entry in bold to the blank box and hit OK

Network Security Service

===Stay in safe mode and navigate to these files or folders and delete them if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\mfchj.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsys.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipri32.dll <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\javapp32.exe <-file

Again, In safe mode
Do another Scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries
and then FIX CHECKED when ALL other windows are closed

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\ocwvc.dll/sp.html#28129

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\ocwvc.dll/sp.html#28129
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Run About:Buster again and save the log

Restart your computer

Back in Windows, run About:Buster one more time
Saving the log again

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log and the About:Buster logs

Very sorry for the delay
If you can find that file delete it

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster 3.3 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

Why so far behind on Critical updates and Service packs from Windows Updates??
This is important in keeping your system secure also

Thanks again -- Found that file and deleted it.

This machine is due for an operating system overhaul. This machine wound up with me as a parting gift after my last dot-gone experience. The windows update site tells me the license is not valid. Perhaps the start-up's license was not maintained???
