Problem with Netgear Router
« on: August 30, 2005, 12:21:11 AM »
Me and my g/f just moved to an apartment with a solid line, thus we needed to get a router for our two computers. Everything has been somewhat fine, only needed to plug it in and we were good to go.

I can use my internet connection fine for up to 95%. No problems with online games, no trouble downloading files. However, there's a small issue with both DC++ and BitComet (Bit Torrent Client).

With DC++ I can only upload files to other users, there's no problem for anyone to connect to my computer, browse my files or download from me. But I on the other hand, can't connect to other users directly, I can't download any files myself nor can I even complete a normal file-search ("Searching for *****" it says, but no matter what, or how popular a file I'm searching for, it never displays any results (probably because I can't connect to other users)). (Yeah, I can "cheat" my way around this problem by using DC++ in "Passive Mode", but I don't want that. I want to be able to use DC++ just like before.)

With BitComet (latest version) there's an even stranger problem. You see, no problem for me to start a torrent download and note this; once the file is finished downloading (and during download too) I can seed the file/s to other users with no problem. However, I have a few torrents that I've created myself which I'd like to share, but that won't happen ! When I open my own torrents for seeding with BitComet, they just won't connect at all ! Under Status, all it's saying is "Connecting..." and nothing more happens. I just don't understand how I can seed files that I've just finished downloading, but I can't seed my own files.

As far as firewalls are concerned, I don't have any such software installed and I've also deactivated Windows XP's firewall but without improvements. The router I have is a Netgear RP614 Version 3. I have also visited Port Forward and I've made all the configurations that the site suggests (both for DC++ and BitComet). I have configured my network connection to have a static IP - but no difference what so ever.

Does any one have any suggestions of what I can do to fix this ? Are there any NetGear experts out there who can help me with this ?
I'm happy to provide what additional info you might need, just ask for it.

Thanks for your time and help !
