A few years ago I had earthlink service in which they provided a free dsl modem (after a year of service). I have since discontinued the service but held onto the modem. My parents decided it was time for DSL, so I mailed them the modem to use to avoid renting or buying one from the local telephone company that they are getting their service from.
However, over the phone last night, I was trying to help my mom set up this modem with their local DSL service. The modem kept bringing up, in IE, a modem setup page in which it was trying to establish a connection with Earthlink and obviously failing. It doesn't appear that she'll be able to use this with any service other than earthlink. I always assumed DSL modems were non-ISP specific. Is there something I can do to "erase" earthlink from it and get it to work with the local ISP?
It's a VisionNet ADSL modem (E200ER, 200ES, 200ER). At least that's what eBay auctions with pictures that look similar are calling it.
Thanks
