Trying to streamline system

Hello all,

I've recently had a big problem with my laptop - spyware, adware, viruses - etc.  Anywho, managed to clean most of it up, and then a few days later I had an overheating problem and I think I've fried the mobo.

Suffice to say, it was then that I realized I needed a new computer anyways, and went and got myself a desktop.  I figured the first things I'd do was to ensure that it was safeguarded, figured I'd put on a few programs like Norton AV, Adaware, and Spybot.   I've been running this new system for about a month now and decided It'd be a good time to see how the system looks right now, and if I could tweak it to run more smoothly.

I wouldn't download the ulimate troubleshooter from Tasklist's recommendation

I would use Codestuff's starter, it's freeware

I would leave System Restore enabled however

Clean those temp files, etc.. once in awhile
A great utility to help out
Try
Windows Cleanup! 4.0

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done restart the computer

Personally, myself, I run the Standard cleanup, but I'll leave that for your decision

Defrag the system also regularly
