Downloading from my web page

I have written a novel and want to allow people to download it for free from my web page.  How to I get the hyperlink to prompt the user for simple downloading preferences.  All it does at the moment is open Microsoft Word because the hyperlink is a .doc file.

Hi,
If I am understanding your question correctly, you want people to click on the link and have it download to their computer.
The easiest way to do this in my opinion is to get WinZip and add the novel to a zip file, then link that zip file to your webpage.

Easy as cake,

If they right click on the link and save it to their desktops or any other place , instead of left clicking on it  , it will not open in  ms words but be saved as a word document .
