Windows Security flaw...

I was wondering if you know about this, you problably do but just in case you don't....here's the link

http://www.grc.com/sn/notes-020.htm

Have I posted to the correct forum?  I don't want to mess up.  Should we do this or wait on Microsoft's patch?

Thanks, Stormie

Did you see this?
http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24975

Although not totally protected, more reasons to use the newest version of Firefox
I wouldn't be without it  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
and make sure your system is totally up on all high priority updates from Windows

No patch yet for it thru Microsoft
The newest version of Firefox is still vulnerable
but it will prompt you first if you want to download the WMF file
That's when you say no
And you have no problems
If you say OK, and it's a bad guy
Get ready for a bit of a fight to eliminate the bad guys

Seem the circumstances on this forum before
Never knew about the exploit till recently however

I always use Firefox, I hope you like it and use it too
Check the Mozilla site out, look for extensions you may use
I wish I could get the wife to stray from IE, but I don't think it will happen any time soon  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
Try to tell her I uninstalled IE by removing the icon from the desktop, she's not so dumb
"Yah, right"
Back it came

LOL...I'd be willing to bet she's smart enough in her own right but then she's married to you and I'm sure has learned a lot just watching.  Don't delete her little icon anymore....lol  Don't make us girls gang up on you guys.....LOL

I just don't know if I want to change...I've never had any trouble with IE.  When trouble has found my computer it's been when my boys are on here OR they let their friends on here.  That's like letting someone brush their teeth with your own toothbrush.  DON'T share computers....lol  I have it passworded now though!

I'm guilty of downloading the Freeze screensavers and LimeWire though and those, as you could see, got me in a heap of trouble.  I was told LimeWire had no spyware or bugs of any kind.......NOT!

I have a friend who needs some help tech-wise so I'm sending her your way.  In fact I'm sending all my friends your way.  Hope you have some spare time......lol  j/k

Actually, the newest version of limewire has no spyware
It's the bugs>>although the program itself has no bugs
The bugs can be downloaded from any other user unknowingly

Limewire, or any other P2P filesharing programs can transfer bad guys
No matter which filesharing program you use
File should be scanned first with an updated virus scanner
Symantec's should have an option in your Right click button to scan a file before opening it

Actually, she use to help run a small computer college a few years back
She no longer works there
She can run circles around me when it comes to programs such as Excel, etc....  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

You don't have Symantec's anymore?
Your last log showed you did
Was it expired?

Do you need a free solution?

Can you show me a fresh hijackthis log to this thread
Let's make sure Norton's is all gone

Nortons(Symantec's) appears to be installed and running
I can't tell from my side if your subscription has expired or not
But make sure to keep up on all definition updates

But these are the folders related too Norton's Internet Security, which includes AV

c:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security
c:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe

Don't go and try and delete those folders  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
