It is truly free.  It is a referrals based website, and it only makes sense because the advertisement that you have to complete costs money.  However, there is a way to work around this (sorry to say, illegally, but not too bad.  The instructions are quite simple:

2) Choose any prize and fill in your VALID e-mail at the bottom of the page and click Signup
3) Fill in this information with real or fake information, depending if you want to recieve your prize or not.
4) Go to the Login Page and login!
5) Go to the Offer Page, scroll down, and click the Dial-up Earthlink offer.
6) Once this page, make sure the "Monthly plan" button is checked, then click the "Order Now" button.
7) On this page just click the "Checkout" button.
8) Click the "No thanks" button on this new page.
9) Choose any Desired e-mail, password, and secret word on this page and click "Create Account"
10) On this page, fill in Real Sounding information for the Contact information. Make sure the "Contact E-mail" is the same as the -mail you signed up for on the first pages (GamingMadness)
11) For the Shipping Information Section, Just click the "Click here if Shipping Information..." box.
12) For Payment Method Select the "Bank Draft" option and wait for the page to load. Select "Checking" as the Bank Draft Type. Use ANY 7 digit number for the account number. For the Routing Number, use one of the following numbers: 011401960 OR 092902705 OR 111323922
13) Check the "Check here if Billing Information..." box under the Billing Information Tab.
14) Under Extra Information, Just pick anything for the Operating System.
15) Check the Terms and Conditions box under the next section
16) Fill in the security word and click "Continue"
17) Once this new page loads, simply click the "Finish Order" button.
18) Click the "Download Earthlink Software" Button, close the download, and you're done!

Then, refer your friends to do the same, using your own link, and 5 referrals later, you have a free Ipod!

(Or you can use proxies and keep making accounts similar to your own, only repeat the steps using your referral link)
