i have a pc that has win2k on it, and an extra drive bay and i also have a pc with a drive that does not have an operating system on it.  i was wondering if i jump that drive to slave and install it in the win2k machine, fdisk and format it and create a boot disk, remove it, jump back to master, and install it in the back in the non-working pc, would that make the pc operable.

i tried to install 2000 on the non-working pc but there wasn\'t enough hard disk space.  the cd drive has power but won\'t read either so, i took the hard disk, put it into a pc with a working cd drive and installed win98 on it and put it back into the non-working pc to see if the cd drive would work then and it still didn\'t.  i even put an operable cd drive in the pc with the non-working drive and it still wouldn\'t read.  i think there\'s a problem with the installation of the cd drive.

Go into the bios and enable the secondary ide controller.
That may be why you cant see the cdroms.
If that is not the problem, did you insert the IDE cable correctly?
