Overclocking...

I have a AMD athlon 1.4ghz processor and i was thinking about overclocking it but i dont know what it might do.  Is there any negative side effects of overclocking your computer, and do i need to get a better fan (in the case that it could overheat).  I don\'t wanna sound stupid or anything but i never mess with my bios and don\'t wanna have a trial and error moment with my comp.

Yes there is a negative side to overclocking. A fried CPU is a VERY real possibility. Successful overclocking is the result of trial and error settings in the BIOS. If overclocking was a \"sure\" thing with no downside then you would have been sold a \"1.5 AMD athlon\" instead of a \"1.4 AMD athlon\".

PS If you can\'t afford to just up and replace your PC on a whim then overclocking is not something you want to be trying out.
