Trouble installing RAM, I hate RAM help!
« on: June 26, 2002, 05:33:43 PM »
Hi guys, I have win98SE  a 950mhz AMD processor, 64 mb nvidia vid card, but only 120mb of pc133 SDRAM.... So anyway I bought a 256mb of pc133 SDRAM and tried to add it to my macheine. However, the farthest i can get during startup is to this screen that says something about not complying with windows 98 security... When I put the old 120mb RAM stick back in, alone, the computer starts up perfect.... I\'ve tried to just the 256mb RAM stick in alone already, the computer just freezes upon startup... In conclusion, I would like to ask if this has something to do with the company that I bought the computer from (Connect-Computers) installed something that prevents me from adding more RAM to the macheine. And, if it\'s not that, what the heck should i do to make it work, because trying to play games with 120mb SDRAM stinks.

Thanks

RNR

I see several possible problem dude:
Or ur 256MB RAM is 100MHz bus (not 133) .....
Or the 256MB RAM is faulty
Or ur mother board works per Banck....not as stand alone RAM....(it means that u can only fit identical bars....2 bars of 128MB or 2 Bars of 256MB.....but not a 1x 128MB + 1 x 256MB)
Or the type of RAM u need is not SDRAM.....

But I don\'t see how the computer company could stop u adding more RAM......

What are your computer specifications?
if at first you dont succeed, call it version 1.0

Another possible cause is that your motherboard does not support 256Mb sticks.  If you know the manufacturer and model # theie web site might reveal these specs. You also might call the company you bought it from and ask if there is a limitation on the size RAM stick the board will take. Good luck!
