The Windows 98 Wont run Runescape.. It lags so much and you cant do anything... IT could be the possibilite of theres not a lot of memory on it .. Or its just old.. Also Sometimes the computer Randomaly Just restarts.... And its so annoying... PLUS the interenet randomaly just closed and says either

Sorry for your inconvenience Windows Explorer had a bug( or something stupid) and had to close... I tryed it with firefox and it did the same thing.....

If you lost the Recovery CD's you can contact the manufacturer of you computer
and maybe order a new one, may cost you for replacement
That's if you want to wipe the drive and start fresh

I won't have much time tonight, but I can try and help you remove what you don't need
First do the following
supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents

we'll take a look at what you need or don't need
Take note: Music and pictures, if you don't want them, just delete them
But DON'T delete any programs installed, we must uninstall them

Also, if you want to save some music or pics, you could back them up to CD or DVD
if you have a burner

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Look thru that uninstall list that you posted
Besides Windows Updates
What in the list do you think you DON'T need installed that you may not use anymore?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

I really dont want to  delete stuff that can mess up my computer..

Im not the biggest of computer people =D ... I think i may have a virus... Cause ive heard that when you download .exe that can inclue keyloggers...
But i dont think i have a keylogger cause really nothing strange is going on ... but i may have a virus...

(also i get this bubble (at the task bar saying) you comp may be at risk... then i click it and it says my windows is not genuine ...)

Nothing really malicious in your log
You should be able to safely remove the following
Game Maker 5.3A
Game Maker 7.0
GameSpy Arcade
ArtMoney SE v7.24
Autofighter
AviSynth 2.5
Backyard Baseball 2003
Blade Client V1.6
Bulent's Screen Recorder
Cheat Engine 5.3
SCAR Tutorial v1.0.0.1
PSP Brew 0.91
PSP Video 9 1.74
QuickTime
Red Kawa File Server 1.1
Rhapsody Player Engine
RK Auttocutter 1.1.0
RK Client 3.5.2
RKAutominer 2
SCAR CDE 2.03
SCAR CDE 2.03 with SRL 3.7
SCAR Divi CDE 3.05
SCAR Divi CDE 3.06
PiMPStreamer
Mozilla Firefox (2.0.0.5)

Some of those in green may be related to Runescape, if you don't need them, uninstall them
This is up to you

You don't really have to remove any of the above, but you don't need the an older version of Firefox when you have the newest installed, I do suggest that you remove the next 4 entries below

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
Viewpoint Media Player

Be sure to Reboot the computer after you uninstall all or any of the following above
Back in Windows, let's get you the latest version of Java
 • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
 • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
 • Click the "Download" button to the right.
 • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
 • The page will refresh.
 • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language  and save it to your desktop (13.90 MB).
Double click on the installer on desktop and follow the prompts for installation
You can delete the installer after successful install

Come back here and post a NEW Uninstall list from Hijackthis
Remember, most of what we are removing is not malicious, we are just cleaning the computer
From the new uninstall list, let me know what you think you may or may not need

I have to questions about my windows xp/98
« Reply #10 on: August 03, 2007, 11:55:23 AM »
It sounds as if your Video drivers may be corrupt

What video card do you have?
Right click on MyComputer>>Select Properties>>HARDWARE tab
Device Manager

Expand (+) on Display Adapters
Post back the name below it
Also right click on the name of your Video and select Properties
Any problems found?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

This whole topic does not make sense
Like I said before
Quote
If you lost the Recovery CD's you can contact the manufacturer of you computer
and maybe order a new one, may cost you for replacement
That's if you want to wipe the drive and start fresh

What is the make/ and the exact model of your computer?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Why doesn't the topic make sense? HMMMM
You want to wipe the drive and start all over, but you self confessed that you lost the CD to Reinstall XP

So how to you plan to wipe it, you won't have an operating system to install on it???
It's up to you if you want to wipe it, but you probably need the CD if you don't have a Recovery paritition on the machine

Here's some info on your system
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst...lve.htm#1136934

Look under the heading
Reinstalling Windows XP

You can for Dell, explain to them you lost the CD and you want to start fresh on the machine
They may be able to send you a new CD at a cost

As far as your Windows 98 machine, start a new topic in this forum

EDIT
Quote
Well i found out i couldnt...
I didn't see that earlier

If you would like to continue clearing programs and junk without reinstalling
I'll be glad to help, now that you understand what you are up against
