Install problems with Win9X/ME MultiBoot CD
« on: October 07, 2002, 04:54:58 AM »
Hey All,

I Have made a MultiBoot Install CD for the Following OS\'s

Win95b
Win98se
Winme
NT 4 WKS
NT 4 SRV
NT4 Term SRV

All is/went OK, I can boot and install all the NT4 stuff just fine.
The problem is when I try to install any of the 9X/ME stuff.

It will boot the .IMA files just fine, Start/Load the Setup Program OK, but will fail shortly into SETUP. I have followed
the advise on this from tech-hints.com.

First place all OS in UENGLISHWIN??  = Didnt work
Then WIN?? in the Root Dir : WIN??
Same problem, setup fails (Locks-UP) after the first few screens. I have even copied off the Orig. Boot Images from
the Orig. CD\'s and layed out the DIR structure the same as
the Orig. CD, NOGO...

However the Orig. CD Works just fine, Setup starts and completes as normal. \"Go Figure\"..

I have tried the ISO under VMWARE & Vitural PC 5
Both show the same problems.

I have tried different CD formats: ISO9660,ISO9660/Joliet
and Joliet, nothing works.. I\'m pulling my hair out here..

Can anybody shed some light on this???

Well, your first problem is you CAN NOT run it correctly within VMWare, I am unsure of Virtual PC, but VMWare would always lock up on win98se, you may wanna burn it anyways and test it that way, on win95 I get an error about 28.cab, on win98 i get an error at 41% sayin that there is an error in the cab...i will test winme, mine is runnin with 2k pro, serv, advserv, 95, 98se, 98se lite, bluecon pro 4, tomsrtbt, memtest, freedos (with readntfs and killdisk), and 911CD.  Everything works, for the most part, seems like some of my files have been corrupted in win2000, but it seems that only 2 of them are corrupt, I will have to find those cds and redo the files, oh well.  Other than that EVERYTHING else works and the image is only 702MB, so technically I should be able to add 20 or so more MB, dunno what I will put, any ideas?  Please, if you have any ideas as to why 95 nor 98 work, please lemme know.  I am redoin the cd now and am gonna test it again.  I may end up having a batch file run, copy to a temp directory, install windows, delete temp dir and be done with it.

Thanks for the Info.

However the Setup of 95/98/Me, dont\' even get to the
\"installing files\" part. On 95/98 both hang after the 1st
\"Click here to start\" on ME it hangs after the EULA.

I have tried this on both VMWARE & Vitural PC 5.
Strand ting is the Orig. CD\'s work just fine..This is kinda
stramge since the Multiboot CD hs it\'s DIR\'s layed out
the same..
