Its going to increase the amount of level 3's that you see fishing sharks and cutting yews. Now they can spend full time cutting and fishing without having to sit in a bank trying to sell the stuff.

Just another way Jagex fails to see that all they are doing is closing doors for real world trading by opening up new ones...

My other predictions still stand (read the thread about Jagex Killing RuneScape), the prices for everything will slowly drop (including rares). Introducing a major economical breakthrough such as this "Grand Exchange" after a game has already reached livelihood is just stupid. Games such as WoW or LotRo started out with this feature, and therefor, the in-game economy is based solely around it. All this is going to do is force people to keep lowering and lowering the price, much like the price of mills in the blackmarket has slowly descended.

I remember, not long ago, the price of 1mil was $7-$8 (and even higher before that), but since a few people decided to sell for $5 at one point just to get rid of them fast, other people were forced to lower their prices to compete. Then, others decided to lower theirs even further to compete, and then other even lower. That is how any economical competition will end, with desecrated price averages.

The same thing will happen in RuneScape now, people will see an item listed for a certain price, and they will list it for even lower. Until they are at the bottom of the Jagex-allocated price range of that particular item. Jagex will have no choice but to lower the price range, thereby allowing the price to drop even more. This would happen even without the grand exchange update anyway, but adding this update, especially in the middle (or end the way they are pushing things) of a game's lifetime is just going to exponentially increase the speed of things.

In the end, Jagex HAS successfully taken over control of the RuneScape economy in the sense that they decide if and when they raise or lower an item's allocated price range. However, this is going to cause nothing but trouble in the long run. I can guarantee that Jagex will try to lower the prices of rares (they regret ever making the things) as far as they can. But rares are the one thing that will always continue to rise, regardless of the economy. The fact that they are constantly being taken out of the game (deaths, alching, other mishaps) just defies the laws of economics. But believe me when I say, there will be problems now that Jagex has taken over control of the economy. Nothing but bad can come from that.
