If I upgrade to xpsp1 & now requires activation
« on: November 08, 2002, 10:04:55 AM »
Can I reinstall the original pre-sp1 installation. The reason I\'m not sure is I was going to explore my w2k disk on my xp system and a window popped up saying something to the effect since it was an older OS it was going to disable the install(or something like that.
TIA

To reinstall the old OS without SP1 you pretty much have to nuke the first one.  If you really want to you can but it\'s a pain.  As to the popup, it is supposed to do that.  Anytime you put an older OS in it will stop the setup hence the message.  If you put a newer OS in it will try and make you run the upgrade setup.  Annoying but that\'s M$
Hope this Helps,

Thanks for the reply. So I\'m assuming you have to do more than just pop the original pre-sp1 install disk? If I read you correct the annoying MS message of installing an older OS would appear if I tried a pre-sp1 install.
Thanks

use a program like drive image or XP imager to make images of your drive before installing SP1 that way if you dont like it or you have problems you can simply use the disks to restore your system to what it was before SP1
