FDV here, too lazy to log in. You\'ll install it as usual. You can even call Microsoft. No problem. The trouble is, you get three (maybe four?) installs. Ever. For the LIFE of the product.
Whether you call on the phone or use the \'net to register, the reg process does not red flag the install. Instead, it\'s got a limited activation lifespan.
I know. I bought an Office XP volume license and they told me that I\'d have to wait a week and a half for the CD (\"not just the CD, the distribution media, sir\") so I went ahead and got it and ALSO went to Staples and bought a boxed copy because I needed it THAT DAY. So I installed on one machine. Installed on two. Installed on three. The install stopped me at four, so I called MS, told them about the volume license and that using one copy on five machines was the SAME THING (use your head, Microsoft Drone). Well, long story short, I ended up calling back four times for different reasons. The first three times, the reps ALL told me, as if they read from a script--they used some identical words--that the product\'s key could be \"reset,\" even \"changed\" to OEM, so that my one copy could become the volume license CD. They also told me THAT THEY DID THIS!! Well, the fourth install didn\'t take after hours of trying different things. I tried the next day. No go. My final call to MS produced a tech who flatly (and kudos to her, she decided to be honest about it) told me that the disc was useless now. The product was all used up, and despite what I was told, reg keys cannot be reset or changed to different types.
They lie, plain and simple.
You bought Office XP, you can install it two more times. EVER. Then you can throw it in the trash.
Here\'s the sweet revenge.
I told her that this blatantly dishonest treatment made me open up Xnews and download a reg-free Office XP from Usenet \"not to be a pirate, but to guarantee my legal rights under the volume license agreement.\" (Which I really did. It even had SP2 integrated.)
Her: \"We wish you wouldn\'t do that, sir.\"
Music to my ears, this little victory went... to me ;-)
