Computer laaagss
« on: June 03, 2008, 09:38:53 PM »
I have an XP with DSL and it was running fine until I installed Google Earth. I tried to solve the problem by uninstalling it but the lag is still there. Every 5 seconds or so, my internet would freeze, and when I try to load a webpage, it would freeze and load about 2 minutes later. Someone please help me  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

Here's my hijackthis log:

Hi again, can you do the following please
Uninstall your version of Hijackthis from Add and Remove programs as it's outdated

Afterwards:
Download Hijackthis Installer from HERE
For an alternate download location, you can try HERE
SAVE it to your desktop
Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run it
Choose Install

Hijackthis v2.0.2 will open
Close it for now, we will need it later

Then, please do the following
Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your desktop.
Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.

Post back just the Whole contents of Main.txt and Extra.txt

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Let's try cleaning some old entries and run a program and then we'll go from there

I suggest that you print the following out, or save the instructions to desktop for reference
I'm going to need you to close your web browsers for most of this

First however, can you do the following

Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune.
Save it to your desktop, we'll need it in a bit

Close down all open Internet Explorer or Firefox windows

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis 2.0.2 and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A8FB8EB3-183B-4598-924D-86F0E5E37085} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - (no file)

O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - \

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Access your Add and Remove Programs and remove All the following
First remove:
Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only) and
Viewpoint Media Player
Remain in Add/remove
and continue to remove all older versions of Sun Java, we'll update this in a bit
Remove:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_04
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 2
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 3
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 5
Javaâ„¢ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Don't reboot yet, instead
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
      Under Main choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
-------------
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt
Exit ATF-Cleaner from the Main menu

Afterwards, reboot your computer

Bootup will be a bit slower as we have cleared your Prefetch folder
This will increase as this folder is repopulated

After Windows is fully loaded, let's update to the latest version of Sun Java
to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select Windows, next to Platform, check the "agree" box and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
After the install is successful, you can delete the installer on desktop
Then
download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.

  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

After  you post that log
Also post another fresh hijackthis log
Keep me informed how things are running

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

OK. I ran the MBAM program 3 times and each time, it would stop/freeze at system32 msobmain.dll. It also found 5 files infected [but it actually found 7 until the msobmain.dll but I aborted the scan to get rid of the 5] and I removed them, however, my computer did now improve.

Here is the log of the files I removed:

Back in Windows
Download this file - Combofix.exe and save it ONLY to your desktop

Don't run it yet
Physically disconnect the internet cable connection to your computer
Temporarily disable your AntiVirus software and any Spyware realtime protections you may have running so it won't interfere with this fix

Double click on ComboFix.exe to run the program

Follow the prompts
normally this fix takes anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes

If the computer was rebooted by the fix
ComboFix will run again, then continue to create a log, this can take a few minutes
Let it run uninterrupted please
I'll need to see this log later
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

After ComboFix runs, and after it's log opens
Connect Internet cable, if you have no Internet connection
Simply reboot your computer
By default, the location of the combofix log is located at this location
C:\combofix.txt

Post back the log from ComboFix and a Fresh hijiackthis log please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

I apologize for the late reply  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' /> Well... things are running well accept that my internet freezes momentarily, like every 30 sec it would freeze for a bout 5 sec and got back to normal and does it again, continuously.

Can you do the following, reopen Malwarebytes Antimalware
Check for updates
After updating, run a scan
After the scan, post back the results

How are you connected to the Internet
Hardwired, or Wireless?

I'm connected by wire. This problem wasn't here before until after I installed Google Earth.  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Can you try the following

Go to START>>RUN>>type in
cmd

Hit OK, you will now be at the command prompt

At the prompt, type the following

netsh winsock reset catalog

You should be prompted that you must reboot the computer

Reboot the computer
Still problems?

P.S. What happened to the results from the new scan with Malwarebyte's Antimalware?

The problem is still there http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' /> it still freezes every 30 sec for so.... As for the scan, it still has 3 malware until it froze at msobmain.dll, and after that, the program quit responding.

Let's try a different scanner
download and install SUPERAntiSpyware

    * Load SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Check for Updates button.
    * Once the update has finished, exit SUPERAntiSpyware. Please do NOT run a scan yet!

IMPORTANT: Do NOT open any other windows or programs while SUPERAntiSpyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.

    * Open SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Scan your Computer button.
    * Check Perform Complete Scan and then click Next.
    * SUPERAntiSpyware will now scan your computer and when it's finished it will list all the infections it has found.
    * Make sure that they all have a check next to them, and then click Next.
    * Click Finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
    * It could be possible that it will ask you to reboot your computer in order to delete some files after reboot.
    * I'll need a log afterwards of what has been found.
    * To get the log, click Preferences and then click the Statistics/Logs tab. Click the dated log and press View Log and a text file will appear.
    * Please post the results of the SUPERAntiSpyware log in your next reply.
