My computer is a 2000 stock Dell.
I'm not sure what model it is because:
a] I'm retarded
b] I'm retarded

Its soo freaking slow.
I don't feel like buying a whole new computer, so I was just thinking I could add some RAM and get a new video card.

This website (http://www.crucial.com) says I can't.

Apparently my computer is too old and NOBODY sells RAM that's compatible for it.
Plus I don't think I have enough slots to add any more..

Is there ANYTHING I can do?

I would really like to avoid buying a new motherboard and stripping the computer but i guess if it's cheaper than buying a new computer, I'll settle.

If there's nothing I can do, should I stick with building a new desktop, or should I move to a gaming laptop?

Dont wast your money on a good gaming comp its not worth it... Trust me i did the same thing. Not worth it. i spent about 3,000$ of money on one...

Go to NewEgg.com and you can build a good comp there for under 1,000$

Well, I was thinking about getting a laptop. I really think it would be pretty nice to have because I hate being stuck in my room...
Are there any good laptops that would be able to run at least WoW really well?

WoW can run on a monitor ducktaped to a paperclip...

Seriously, WoW is less resource intensive than MS Paint. You could spend $300 on a laptop from 1998 and run WoW without a problem.

I wouldn't be so sure...I tried running it on my 2000 Desktop and I lagged horribly when I got into Ironforge.. Couldn't even move in there.

I've sorta dropped the idea of upgrading this old piece of [censored], and I think I'm just going to save up and get a pretty decent $800-$1200 laptop.

Any suggestions on it?

If you can tell me how I could get more RAM on my desktop, I would still appreciate it.

Okay. Scratch that. I'm going to build a computer. But since I'm doing a desktop, I only want to spend about $800 max. I've already gotten a bit of a plan.

Processor and MoBo- $205
Video card- $175
Monitor- $140
Power Supply- $50
RAM- $50
Hard Drive- $35
Case- $40

I'm pretty much horrible at piecing hardware together, so if anyone can let me know what a good build would be for that price range, I would be amazingly grateful.

And Btw and to be honest, laptops are a piece of junk... I have one and i am really working towards enough money for a desktop.

Also finding RAM for only 50dalloars might get you 1 MB so good luck with that

Hmm. I didn't even think about that. Well I found a site that offers 4GB for about $70. That should work.

If you are using 4GB of RAM, then you need to make sure you are using a 64bit OS. 32bit OS's are only compatible with 3GB of RAM or less. You also need to make sure your motherboard has enough slots for the RAM sticks. If your mobo only has 2 slots, then you need to go with 2x2GB sticks, if it has 4 slots, I would still recommend 2x2GB sticks incase you may want to upgrade at a later date, however 4x1GB sticks might be a cheaper option.

Another thing to consider is case and GPU compatibility. Some GPU (Video Cards) will not be able to fit in some smaller cases, this is why, as far as cases go, cheaper is not always the best way to go. I am assuming you will either be going with a GeForce 8800 or 9600. I would recommend an 8800, but again, make sure it will fit in the case you get.

Also, make sure your Mobo and CPU are compatible, don't get a AMD Mobo and an Intel chip, and if you are going fully AMD, don't get a AM2 and a quadcore, etc.

No, BAD blackout!

Do not get an ATI, get an Nvidia. You want an EVGA GeForce 8800, end of story. The CPU is great, I have one in one of my computers. HDD is ok, but I don't really like Seagate. I am a big fan of Cooler Master, and it will definitely fit any Graphics card you can find. You might consider getting two of those DVD drives.

Don't forget to get an OS. I recommend Windows Vista Home Premium.

I really dont want to break $1k, and I'm at $977 with the new GFX card.

Is there a 64bit version of XP?
I hate Vista.

Vista is better than XP, the only reason people don't like it is because it creates a lot of bugs when used with a sub-par system (and most systems that were around in the XP days are not up to the standard of today). The system you are building will be far from sub-par, and thus Vista is the best option.

Okay...I have a friend who is telling me that he knows a guy that works for a computer company and gets a discount on everything, so I'm gonna see if I can get hooked up.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is a type of computer data storage. The word RAM is mostly associated with volatile types of memory, where the information is lost after the power is switched off.
