Preffered cd writing software..? (not 1:1)
« on: December 07, 2002, 02:49:37 PM »
Im just curious to who like\'s what. I know cd writing is pretty much a common thing today. However i dont seem much on how people like the interface too much and what they think of the quality. I\'m really inspired to post this because of the post that a Anonymous user posted in the EZCD thread that was completely honest and correct. I have been waiting years to see a post worded like that with that information. (always had a thorn in my side with Adaptec one way or the other :-) That Anon user was surely correctly informed and has the true insight about what is going on with EZCD. Im in ways, since i deal with burning cd\'s on a daily basis, very realived to see that post. Sort of pulled the thorn out and maybe the wound will heal now...let\'s truely hope.

Anyhow im pretty much not going to list copy ONLY app\'s like CloneCD. To me the interface is never that detailed and can only be so detailed anyways. However i do think CloneCD is the best quality and has the best interface...really direct and support\'s alot of great feature\'s for 1:1\'s from what i remember. (Huge hit with \"Fair Use\" user\'s out there with cd\'s bending their right\'s by companies by incorporating overly and madane protection. What\'s all that really worth in REALITY anway\'s???)

This is just my opinion...from the first day the GUI splashed me in the face and my feeling\'s and experience\'s...which i experienced totally and utterly alone with nobody else around for each one on my frist tries of each.

----------------------------------------------

NTI\'s whatever:
I really have not used this software in a few year\'s. I only tried it once and when i did it was a total flop. I have heard it has gotten better but what i remember of it was that the interface was REALLY limited and the actual quality left something to be desired in regard\'s to all field\'s of cdrom writing.

Ahead\'s Nero:
Ive used this program inside and out. In just about every mode beside\'s the funky DDCD (double density cd\'s or whatever) and it has up\'s and down\'s. It\'s up\'s...many ups is that for a quick and easy job...it does just that. The DVD capabilitie\'s have had LITTLE experience in but for creating a DVD-V it has many problems (or so it seems by many user\'s) to follow the standards. The MiniDVD capabilite\'s of it however have been the best i have ever used. The CD writing capabilitie\'s always seem if\'y to me. I use it..but very rarely do i use it in confidence. VCD\'s,SVCD\'s,mixed mode, hybrid\'s, etc.. i have done many times each. On each one there never seem\'s to be a point where im POSITIVE it will work. 95% of the time it does (or atleas it seems to) work. Quick, easy, and the most options i have seen in any burning program.

Golden Hawk\'s CDRWin:
Well i can say that when this application fails...i seem to figure out exactly why...unlike most app\'s. Very quick and straight forward. However the first time i used it tried to make a CDDA/DATA cd and was REALLY lost on what to do. Wasn\'t the most user friendly for someone who has never used it...but after time went by i learned it...and like it ALOT. The lack of being able to write in multisession does sort of suk but it can be done (just not in one write). I find this application to uphold EVERY standard of every book for cdrom\'s...and very well.

Adaptec\'s EZCD:
I can\'t tell you how many times i used this several years ago in total mystery why thing\'s just...well just didnt work when they should of. It seemed like every other application had no problem that EZCD had every problem. I still don\'t like it. Think it could be ALOT more than it is. Aswell never should be relied on for accuracy. Has a ...intersting interface. Not sure if it is designed for power user\'s, new user\'s, or what. But everytime it loads up, there is not a single time i dont say \"Why\" to myself.  Overall this app seems\' to have the market. Adaptec has been around longer than cdrwin and some of the other older ones...but to me it does not show one bit. Comes with most burners...which is a plus for someone not looking to buy a app...but almost every burner today comes with one so im not sure what that is worth anymore.

Padus\'s DiscJuggler:
Im not too sure what to think about this application. I know it has power...however the interface if fine for people that are used to it...but if you never have used it...it\'s truely a mystery in ways.  Without the interface being confused to new user\'s, it certainly has some \"Voodoo\" on how it copies. It seems as if there is not a single cd on the planet it couldnt copy or make in one way or another. The older version\'s defiantely seemed more corporate based being there Autoloader edition has seemed to be a favorite with many. The newer version of is...well they seem to be just as good, adding new feature\'s, but not stepping up in the quality. However this is ok since the quality it gives is great already. The whole .NET thing i think went alittle too far...but it is a advancement (not sure what it is worthed however vs. a straight transffer of a .iso then burning manually). For consumer\'s this application cost more than the rest...but the price reflect\'s it. However, cdrwin is cheap, and just as versatile.

Golden Hawk\'s DAO:
This is all i personally use today. A very good application that is intented for script\'s and has great options. Other applications in the bundle also contain great feature\'s like COPY2CD, FILE2CD, etc.. All these can be ran out of a .bat and run smoothly. Today i mainly use COPY2CD and have my system back it\'s self up every 4 day\'s. I never have to touch a thing after i set it up...it just backs up the files and directories (downloads & webpages) i want it to and that is that. All i do is leave a cd in the tray and burn sessions to a disc. I get about 30 sessions to a disc so the cd stays in there awhile. Obviously using a cdr app that is criptable has many advantage\'s. EX. Compressing before hand, moving fines before and after, delting unwatned files before hand, etc..

CDRTOOLS:
I can\'t remember who made this scriptable application. Ive only used it a few times. For what it is worth it certainly is worth checking out. Has alot of nice feature\'s and will work when it seems almost nothing else will. I however, do not use it because i like COPY2CD better. However this does not mean COPY2CD is better...i just know it better and have had much more experience with it.

------------------

There has to be some i left off. But im really tired and going to bed. The above is just my first experience\'s and what i have found in almost 5 year\'s of writing cd\'s off and on. I preffer, CDRWin for a GUI and DiscJuggler because DiscJuggler was the first application i ever used to write cd\'s with. Many are good...and many are bad. Those are my favorite\'s...and my least favorite is NTI\'s whatever with Adaptec EZCD one up from it. Both to me have seemed in the past...just not what i need or want. Im not saying they suk, however i think they, but for my personal opinion i would never suggest either to anyone who need\'s performance and reliability. Although i might be suprised with NTI\'s latest since i have not seen it in a long time.
