Downgrading versions of windows
« on: June 20, 2002, 10:58:38 PM »
Hey, I currently have winXP home edition, but since it takes up so much RAM, i was wondering if there is a way to downgrade to win98SE. Everyone told me to downgrade to win98SE, but i have no idea how to do it....

Oh yea, I do have some old \'getting started books\'  from windows.. as i look i noticed I have the win98SE book that came with an older computer (but it was pre-installed, so there\'s no cd or anything)...

Lets see, I also have a Win98 First edition book, and the cd. I got that from my old computer..

Well, I also found a win95 book with the cd, which came with a trash computer that we had to send back to the company.

Anyway, any help with the downgrading would be appreciated thanks!

Just format the hard drive, to do that, start up from a win95 or win98 startup floppy, and at the command prompt type FORMAT, it\'ll give you a warning that you\'re about to erase all the contents in the hard drive type Y, after a while it\'ll show that it completed the task and it\'ll ask you to type a name for the hard drive, click enter for none.
If you already have the win95 or win98 cd disc on the CDrom
change disk from a: to d: or the letter of the CDrom drive, ie type D: and click enter, if valid then type DIR to see what files are on the disk, if you see the files from the win9x then type setup, and the installation guide will take you from all steps to complete the installation.
