Computer is freezing as soon as desktop comes up
« on: March 10, 2009, 05:27:33 AM »
Hi,

I am posting this message with the help of another computer. so it is difficult for me to post 'hijack this' log here. As soon as i start my computer either it will freeze before desktop shows up or just after it shows up. It was working fine before i tried to install one more hard disk yesterday evening. After many trials I managed to install and run 2 hard disks together but now the original hard disk with windows has started getting hang.

Please help with this problem. Thanks in advance!!

After facing this problem, i detached new hard disk and tried running with only 1 hard disk(original) but it was giving same problems.

Luckily i could manage to get a hijack this log. here it is

Computer is freezing as soon as desktop comes up
« Reply #2 on: March 10, 2009, 08:57:09 AM »
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot the computer afterwards

Back in Windows

Download > ATF Cleaner < by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.

Double Click on ATF-Cleaner.exe to Run it
Check the boxes to the left of:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
*Prefetch (Windows XP) only.
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit from the Main menu

download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Save the installer to desktop

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.

  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
        * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)

  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Also post a fresh Hijackthis log please and let me know how things are running

My bad
That was for another user
I meant to post the following

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: GearTool - {6978074F-9702-4EDB-8172-4DD019693D40} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhsa.dll (file missing)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Now I have to go see what I posted to the other user

System is in a better position now as in it is not getting freeze. After i posted my problem here, i had a word with my friend and as he had advised i removed pata cable of my cd-rom device and tried running the machine. To my surprise it was not getting freeze anymore which gave me a sign of relief but after that one more problem popped up. I have onboard graphics card and it is not working. Error is coming up as soon as i start my computer stating that error loading intel 845/gl graphics controller. Apart from this both the hdd are attached and i have also reattached cd rom and nothing is going wrong as of now apart from graphics issue.

The closest I can find for your Graphics controller is listed here
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-009236.htm

You may have to download Graphics driver and reinstall it
Create a system restore point ahead of time and temporarily disable your AntiVirus during install

reboot afterwards, see if that helps

« Reply #7 on: March 10, 2009, 02:09:12 PM »
First i tried upgrading the driver from the vendor's website "www.kobian.com". i succeeded upgrading but i could not see any effect as my display after restart was same like before. I also tried from the link given by you but i did not know how to take system restore point so i havent done it that way. Was my mistake pardonable?? what should i do now?

Error is coming up as soon as i start my computer stating that error loading intel 845/gl graphics controller

Are you still getting that error?
Or is the display corrupt or just big?

Now that error is not coming but a message pops up every time I start my computer at the system tray saying that "your computer screen resolution and color depth are currently set to a very low level. you can get a better picture by increasing these setting by clicking on this balloon."

I can see the new version of driver mentioned in device manager but on my screen everything looks very big and very bad in colour.

I have got this BSOD before also and today after keeping PC idle for few minuted this BSOD had turned up. It says that a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to ur comp. It further says that a process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpetedly exited or been terminated apart from usual  other info.
Technical info :

*** STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x870625F0,0x87062764,0x805FA430)

Now what does this code indicate?

Try right clicking an empty spot on the desktop and select Properties
Click on the SETTINGS tab in Display properties
Under Screen resolution and color depth, try changing your settings

I have a suspicion it is the configuration of your hardware

I have tried that every time i got this type of screen problem but it never worked. so tell me some other solution.
I have onboard graphic card. I had removed cpu fan yesterday to clean the dust.
Do you think i might have hampered any other part of the motheboard as  did this for the first time.??

Do you definitely have your Harddrive set as MASTER

What about secondary channel, what do you have connected with your CDRom?
Have you checked the jumpers on it?

See I have my installation like this:

Primary Master: HDD with windows (Jumper settings as cable select)
Primary Slave: Another HDD  (no jumpers)
Secondary Master: DVD-RW (Jumper settings as master)

Any changes suggested in jumper settings?

Well, as the link I posted to you from Microsoft
Try changing the Primary from Cable select to Master

See if that's any help

Your video drivers still appear corrupt, did you try downloading the ones I linked to earlier
If not, try that, save the installer to desktop
Uninstall Old driver from Add/Remove and/or Device manager

Reboot and install the new drivers, reboot and see if you can change settings in Display properties

Which drivers, the ones I linked too, or the ones you found

What I actually want you to try, is uninstall your Video Drivers totally from Add and Remove Programs
Don't reboot after doing so,
Then go into Device Manager
Under Display properties, Right click on your video Adapter and choose uninstall if present

Then reboot the computer
Back in Windows, reinstall the driver for video
Reboot and see if you can change settings
