Monitor not responding and light is blinking

The last few days it has been taking my monitor a couple minutes to wake up from sleep mode when it used to take a second. When I restarted the computer it took my monitor a couple minutes to display the desktop as well. I have a samsung 19" flatscreen

Can you supply me with the Exact make/model of this computer please
In addition:
Download [color=\"#FF0000\"]OTL.exe[/color][/url] by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Close all windows and double click on OTL.exe to run it
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

NOTE: If you have trouble, or an error message trying to post the logs
Can you upload it to a reply box
In a Reply, select "Browse..." on the bottom right and then navigate to the file and select it
Then click "Upload"

Can you supply the model of Monitor you have, and what color of blinking lights you see

Power Plan: High Performance.
I'm not sure if someone changed this setting recently, I dont remember if its always been that way.

Samsung SyncMaster 953BW - 19" - widescreen. The light is blue and blinks but the screen wont display right away.

Looking at the manual, this what they suggest

Thats exactly what happens. I must be in Power Saver mode and it takes a long time to get out of it. Should I turn that option off?

You can still have your monitor turn off after a specified time, eg.. 15 minutes
But see if disabling Power management helps

I just changed everything to Never sleep. The thing that worries me though is when I restart my computer I dont see it reboot, which could be a problem in the future.

you can remove OTL by doing the following
Run OTL.exe and click on the cleanup button, reboot the computer when prompted

Do you have another monitor you can try on this computer, see if it boots properly?
And/or, can you hook this monitor to another computer and see if the problem remains with slow show up time

I tried my other monitor on computer 1 and it was also stuck in powersave mode. I havent been able to get an image the whole day on that computer. On computer 2 I tried monitor 1 and it didnt work, a blue light just blinked. I dont get how thats possible.

So are you saying you can't get any monitor to work on your computer

It sounds like a definite hardware problem, I've seen this happen quite a few times when someones moves a computer from one spot to another, something gets bumped, etc...


I suggest you might try the following, shut down all power, disable all cables to the computer
Open the box if you feel confident enough, you sound like you are
Remove and reseat the Video card, if you have an addon card, also take a look at all other hardware inside the computer
Make sure all cables are secure, also look at your memory modules, ensure they are tightly seated

Take a look at the cable ends of the cable connected from Monitor to Computer, make sure all pins look straight and not bent

reconnect what you need to have the computer boot
Mouse, keyboard, monitor, and nothing else

Does the computer boot OK?

I think I've made some progress but I'm not sure what to think of it. I re-secured the cards in the box and hooked up the monitor but still blue blinking light. I then tried my other monitor and I got an image; I am using the computer right now. Computer 2 with the widescreen monitor does not get an image. So do I conclude its the monitor?

Well, it sounds as if your Monitor is going on the fritz

A capacitor, etc.. could be shot, may cost more to replace then just to buy new
