problem with windows XP
« on: February 23, 2003, 01:55:54 PM »
i have installed Windows XP Pro on my old AMD 300 (Microtrend 5200 motherboard, 256 mb RAM) computer,
and when i go to control panel , i receive a message , saying something like an error occured and would i like to reports this error to microsoft,
so i updated to service pack 1 , and can open control panel with no trouble, but now, when i want to shoot down the system , it reboots itself.

Does anybody have same problem with old computers?

Thanks

first off we need more information. right click on my computer > properties > advanced > startup and recovery > uncheck the auto restart, and change the memory dump to complete.

when that is completed you may have to restart twice, but this will then stop the system on shutdown giveing you a lot more information then what you currently have.

and as for a stab in the dark, in comtrol panel > poewr options > APM tab > check or un check the APM support.

good luck and have fun
