« on: April 29, 2003, 02:28:38 AM »
This is another problem that I have noticed since I have installed, the new version of mandrake, I noticed that my hard disk drive heads keep making a noise every now and then, I have tested the drive and the drives has not fault.

I have been using this drive with version 9.0 (dolphin) and did not had this knocking noise.

does anyone know if this is a flaw with mandrake 9.1 (bamboo)

this does not sound normal to me any help would be ok.

Thx

Please note I am tech and I have thoroughlt tested this drive.

What kind of noise?  Not a knocking sound that happens every so often, is it?  If so, the drive may be going bad.  If it just sounds like increased drive activity, that may be normal.  Just make sure you disabled any services you don't need, often that would be the cause of constant activity.

Now when I am running windows my drive does not any noise at all, however when I am running linux on the same drive there is a knocking sound, periodically, this is not the hard drive failing that i know for a fact, maybe this have something to do with Linux 9.1 I have had 9.0 installed on that same drive but without any noise what so ever, as soon as i installed 9.1 boom that,s it.

any assistance
