Ok, I have a customer's PC that keeps locking up everytime I open Excel, or open more than 3 programs at a time.
Here's the system specs.
Windows98 v. 4.10.2222 A
CPU PentiumĀ® II processor - 1000 MHz
256MB RAM
38GB IDE hdd w/ 31GB free space
Office 2000 Small Business Edition SR-1
Powerpoint 2000 SR-1
Using TaskInfo2003 we've noticed that the system may have a possible memory leak...but we cannot find it.
The system becomes low on resources within minutes of using ANY application.
MS Excel immediately locks the system and it must be manually cold booted.
Here's what I've tried so far
Repaired Office 2000
Repaired PowerPoint 2000
Installed all Windows 98 updates.
Installed SR-3 for Office 2000
Repaired IE6 SP1
Uninstalled Office & Powerpoint 2000
Ran System File checker (both automatic and restored defaults and manually verified system file versions)
Turned off CD-ROM file cache
Swap file is set to be managed by Windows.
Reinstalled Office 2000 and PowerPoint 2000
Reinstalled all Office 2000 service packs and updates.
Repaired IE6 SP1 again.
Tried running EasyCleaner (ToniArts) but hangs as opening program.
Due to the number of complex applications installed on this PC, I would like to avoid formatting and reloading the system.
The only other thing I think may fix this is upgading to XP. (Which is what fixed another one just like it a few months ago at same customer site)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
