Hi there!
Well I've got a network set up at my house, no problems there.
just a basic network really using a workgroup.
now at the moment its set to read-only on one of the hard drives on my main pc
and i was wondering that if i wanted to log into the pc from my laptop, could
i have the choice to login with a different account set up on the pc to use for
network logins, so that it can set to Full-Control just for those that know the login
and leave it for the others as read-only.

I had just recently formatted the pc and so it was still set to "Simple File Sharing",
so the shared folders where visible to all to see, now since i changed it to normal
file sharing it shows a login screen except there is no username in the username
box plus the username box is disabled (the administrator password for the pc
works)

So really what im looking for is:
Is there a way to always display a login box for when i want to access the pc's shared folders?

For all those that have read this far, well done! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Thanks in advance!

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharin...aring/index.htm

website i found,
pretty helpful, understand more how it all works, just had to deselect the Everyone usergroup from the access list and put the admins login there, now it asks for login,
just going to see if i can get it to work for some folders that i want other people on the network to be able to access
