dumb DSL/modem/router question
« on: December 10, 2003, 12:10:23 AM »
I have been trying to add  netgear RP614 router to my home DSL conncection (working fine for years) to share more PCs. After careful hookup and troubleshooting I verify an internet feed to the 614 (working light) when hooked to the ADSL "modem", and verify a working connection from the PC to the 614, but no live internet connection and no apparent DNS service.

As I reviewed all the equipment, it seems my cable "modem" a Cisco 675 is more than a modem, it is also a router, altlhough with only one port out.  Will this setup (2 routers in line) work? Maybe I just need a hub or a switch...

I also think I need some specific instructions from my ISP to reset the cisco to work with multiple rather than just one PC, but before I do that  - can I use the netgear I bought, or do i need a switch instead?

Thanks for any insights

Terry
