I finally got around to updating the program I use to play audio CDs on an older HP PC running Win 98SE. The HP keyboard on this PC is nothing special, but it does have the usual assortment of speed buttons that start applications and also control CD play.
Whenever I press one of the MM control buttons, the old CD Player program starts and attempts to control the CD drive. It eventually quits trying, but stays active only to cause another temporary conflict if I should happen to press another MM keyboard button.
I wrongly assumed that part of the installation would associate the CD control buttons with the new program, Windows Media Player v7 (yes, I know there is a newer version, but it isn't recommended for Win 98). The HP keyboard manager program does not have MM button configuration options. I haven't found anything in the Media Player help that describes this. I also searched the M$ Knowledge Base, but still no luck.
My Google searches produce way too many hits unrelated to my problem. I just can't seem to select the right set of search keywords that might show me where someone else has remedied this situation.
Does anyone know how to change the program associated with a keyboard's MM control buttons?
