weird IDE problems ABIT NF7-S
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:35:06 AM »
Hello,

I'm having a weird problem. I had an abit kt7a, one day it just bombed and kept saying disk boost error. i spent a while trying to source the problem and thought it must be the onboard ide controller.

so i went  out and got an abit nf7-s and some nice pc3200 ram to match. i put it together at the weekend and guess what, he new motherboard refuses to recognise my cd-rom as a slave on the primary ide channel and occasionally brings up rubbish characters and stuff when displaying the HD info on the primary master.

the jumper on the cd is set to slave, the jumper on the hd is set to master. they worked 100% ok like this for two years!!

could it be a problem with the hard drive? or the cd? how do i find out where the fault lies. i can't beleive it's the IDE controller on the new board as it's a similar fault to what i had experienced with the kt7a (which i don't think was broke now, but i don't mind getting a new motherboard and fast memory:)

any ideas?

tia,

tom.
