Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
« on: November 17, 2003, 09:54:46 AM »
I am building a new computer with the AMD athlon 64 fx-51. A processor that works with 32 and 64 bit OSes. My question is that if i run windows XP 64-bit instead of pro, will that just be like windows XP with the exception it being able to run 64-bit code when needed. Or would i see a faster, better return on my 32 bit programs by running xp pro?

Well, right now I'd stay away from XP 64 as I don't think it's officially out yet and is probably still quite buggy.
But once it's out I'd recommend switching to it(unless it has some new spy software from microsoft), if there is any performance decrease with 32 bit programs it would be extremely small, plus you get to run 64 bit programs.

Microsoft has released Win XP 64-Bit for the AMD Athlon 64 on Feb 3, 04

Here's the link to download it (430mb) or order a free CD:
