My unfortunate friend gave me his virus when we transferred stuff over AIM, making me a very unfortunate person. With the virus, norton wouldn't boot on start up anymore and the msconfig window closes the second I open it...cpu was always running on 100% too.
To "save" my problem, my friend told me to format my laptop; but I didn't want to lose the 3 gigs or so of stuff that I had. His solution: send the stuff via aim to his roomate's comp, format and partition my hard drive, then send the stuff back so that even if the virus came with it the partitioning would prevent it from accessing the "important" stuff.
New problem: Cpu does not always run on 100% anymore, and the msconfig screen can be brought up again; but my laptop just freezes for no reason at random times. I seem to be immune to this freezing if I play full screen D2, but if I play D2 with the smaller window, the freezing occurs at its usual random moments...even when I'm doing nothing the laptop would freeze.
Simplified Question: Were laptops meant to have their hard drives partitioned? I hope it wasn't too long
