When I go to run in the start up and type in msconfig and hit enter, nothing happens or pops up. Even if I use the search files and folders it comes up as a file but does not execute when I double click on it.

You may have a virus causing that. Try a free online virus scan from this list:.http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Scanners.htm

If you run xp, you can try here for an emergency copy of msconfig.
