XP Install Please help!
« on: April 26, 2002, 12:04:47 PM »
I\'m trying to do a clean install of XP corp on a clean disk.

However something is wrong and it is taking several hours (over 8 so far!) for setup to copy files.

How cn I use the XP boot disk to boot up but then let me run setup from another hard drive?

Or are there any other solutions? The speed problem occurs with both my CD drives which are normlly fine when working under windows itself.

Cheers!

I experienced the same problem with XP Pro. I am waiting for SP1 (to be slipstreamed to booting CD) before I am going to install XP again. Now using w2k.

For me it took 3 days for XP to install. Copying files and getting it up about 1 day. Then 2 days with XP crashing and booting and installing drivers and I don“t know what. After 3 days everything was okay and I had XP up and running for 3 months before having to reinstall the OS.

If anyone knows whats the problem pleas advise

i suspect master boot. ie partion table use a wipe program on the drive or aleast  the master boot section  i preferr rannish
partion program   it has all needed utiltils.
clean all  partions off the drive then use the erase feature fill hardrive full of zeros  re partion useing rannish and format and set boot.
ie xp win2k has poor partioning program wouldnt use theres
ps rannish does not support ntsf partions
