AK86-L, 1 SATA, WINXP Install
« on: July 06, 2004, 11:30:12 AM »
I have an AK86-L board with an Athlon64 3200+ and a
Seagate 120GB SATA drive with a Sony CRX-220E CDRW on IDE1
Slave. OCZ4001024ELDC-K (PC3200 512MB) X 2. The Mobo has
the VIA8237 chipset with onboard SATA RAID controller.
BIOS/RAID controller detects SATA drive.

I want to install Windows XP on the SATA drive so I boot
with the Windows XP Pro install CD. I have the RAID
drivers on floppy, i hit F6 when asks, then "S", and choose Windows
XP Raid Driver for the controller. Setup copies all files
(still in blue dos screen/Preinstall), then shows
message "Starting Windows". Then it bombs out and reboots
the machine starting the process over again.

This happens when i do either SATA or IDE drive install. I
have tried unplugging the SATA drive, unplugging the IDE
drive, and also keeping both SATA and IDE drives plugged
in, so pretty much every combination. I have tried
swapping DDR with Kingston ValuRam but still no go. I
upgraded the motherboards BIOS to 1.11, cannot find BIOS
upgrade for VIA RAID (VIA8237) controller which is currently at
2.10. I have prepared the SATA drive with the Seagate
tools, as well as low level formatted and formatted in
windows xp on a different machine as NTFS before that.

That is all the information i have and all i have done.
But it still does the same thing. "Starting Windows" then
reboots. I have tried Linux Live on the box, but that uses
a ram drive and doesnt detect any SATA drives or even
controllers for that matter.

Anyway, i hope someone can help.
