I am trying to upgrade 150 NT 4.0 Workstations to XP Professional. I want to do an inplace upgrade to retain all user settings and do not want to wipe the drive clean with a new image. I am attempting to do this using the setupmgr.exe tool to create a unattend.bat, unattend.txt and unattend.udb.
I am choosing the fully automated option when creating these files, as I want this to be completed with the least amount of interaction.
My first atttempt seemed to work, but the unattend.txt file designated the install directory as WINDOWS. The PC was upgraded, but all installed programs and profiles where useless.
I changed this install directory to target the WINNT folder. This does not work as Windows claims that a WINNT folder exists there and if I continue I will loose all that data to create the new install.
What am I missing? How do I make this a fully automated unattended inplace upgrade from NT to XP retaining user data and profiles?
Any and all help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.
