My computer starts up by itself
« on: September 05, 2004, 11:08:41 PM »
I have inherited a Win XP 2002 system.  Every day at about 8:30pm it starts up on its own.  The power options don't give me an option to stop this.  Is it in the bios?  If so, how can I access it to edit it? How can I turn this option off?

Thanks

I have a customer who has this problem, we have been trying to fix it for a couple of Months now. We always do only one or two things but to no avail.

We are going to try replacing PSU as this is just about all that is left apart from the Motherboard itself.

I will post if this cures it but may not know for sure for a couple of weeks.

I had the same problem, checked Admin tools, events viewer, and found that DCOM was the culprit.  It would try to connect to get info or updates, and could not, so it in turn would start the event logger, which would start the pc. Disabled both, services and it has stopped "ghost" starts.

My father just recently built a computer for my brother to use and installed a registered home edition of XP 2002 on the machine.  We also have a problem with the mysterious self startup, but it never gets past the welcome screen.  I have noticed myself that it turns on at odd times during the day, never at all regular.  If anyone still has an idea of what it might be, help is appreciated.

I always wondered if maybe there were remote access settings of some kind that are the default for this particular edition.  I don't know much about those kinds of things however.

Hi Carrie,

I just saw your entry. I had a similar problem.
It probably has to do with the AUTOREBOOT.
See this thread : http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/archiv...php/t-7896.html
