Win2k-not bootable after a few days-HELP!!!!!!!!!!
« on: July 19, 2001, 12:52:47 PM »
Looking for help from Win2k Gurus!
After I do a fresh/clean install of Win2k Pro Workstation everything works great. Next I perform all of the updates from Microsoft (ServPack2, etc.) My system seems to run great. After a few days of starting up and shutting down, I get an error during boot. As follows:
\"Registry could not load hive (file)SYSTEMROOT/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SOFTWARE\"
The system then immediately reboots 1 second after I get this blue screen message. I have tried to use the emergency disk procedure but it does not work. I have also performed a clean install several times without avail. Same thing happens.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks to all who reply!!

Mark

Enable SMART if it is disabled. This usually tells when the hard drive needs replacing.
Run a chkdsk on the entire hard drive. Possibly may be a bad sectors.
If the hard drive is good do the following -
backup all data and wipe out all of your partitions. (use fdisk. also run fdisk /mbr to clear the master boot record.)
clear CMOS.

Enjoy the reinstall
If that doest work, Im clueless.
