C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe
« on: January 16, 2005, 02:50:55 PM »
Hi everybody.  This is my first post here.  I am having an error message at every start up.
Windows can not find 'C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe'.
Then I click OK and I get this error message...
Could not load or run 'C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe' specified in the registry.  Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.

My inetdata folder is empty even with hidden files showing.

Same as this topic here.
http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.ph...showtopic=12089
I'm wondering if this person's problem was ever resolved and what specifically resolved it.  How do I make this error message go away.  This may be easier if I could upload a snapshot of the error message and my registry.  Is it possible to upload pictures into the forum?  Thanks for reading.

It's easier just to see your own Hijackthis log  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

Can you Download Hijackthis 1.99
A small utility to help identify if any Hijackers, Malware, Spyware, etc.....Reside on your computer

Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
Save it to that new folder

Do a SCAN and Save a Log file---Save the log----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe
« Reply #3 on: January 16, 2005, 03:14:38 PM »
It doesn't appear to be running in your processes

Let's try this

Open Hijackthisi>>Open Misc tools Section
Click the Delete File on Reboot button

In the File name field copy and paste the bolded text below to include the Full Path of file to delete

C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe

Click the Open button
Hijackthis may prompt you that the file will be deleted and you must Restart your computer
Don't restart yet

Instead
Optionally, you can fix this entry also
ALCXMNTR.EXE
Here's some more info
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-180.html

If you choose to fix it access your task manager ahead of time and end process on it

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inetdata\services.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
YES and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer
Delete this folder
C:\WINDOWS\inetdata <-folder

Post back a fresh hijackthis log

Hijackthis makes backups, don't delete the backups until your happy with the way everything is running

Nothing to be worried about
You have the Nvidia product installed

You only need to be worried when it's the other variant
Here's some info

There are links to Symantec's that you can find info on the bad guy

and click the NEW TOPIC button

Include your whole log
Here are the instructions

Can you Download Hijackthis 1.99
A small utility to help identify if any Hijackers, Malware, Spyware, etc.....Reside on your computer

Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
Save it to that new folder

Do a SCAN and Save a Log file---Save the log----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

To copy and paste the whole log in your own reply
When you get the log in Notepad
Click EDIT>>SELECT ALL
Then Right click and COPY

Come back and left click once in the reply box and right click and choose paste
Then I can see the whole log, thanks
