the reason you can't get to any updates is in your host file, for example if it shows 127.0.0.1
www.symsntec.com it will not find symantec because it is only going to search your computer.below is what a blank file should resemble

if all you see is 127.0.0.1 (some web site insert windows, trend ect.)
over and over you need to fix just copy the above blank file and paste over the current text save and you shoul be able to get out. you may also have to look at your lmhost also it will have similar blank.
