Help me get my dual boot back
« on: September 03, 2001, 01:08:46 PM »
hello all y\'all....
here\'s the situation.  I had a WinMe / Win2k dual boot ( win2k for all my programming/web dev stuff, WinMe for gaming, of course ).  My WinMe is on a C: partition, Win2K on d: partition, all my apps on e: partition, all my data on f: partition.  So I reformat c: to get rid of WinMe and to reinstall Win98SE in it\'s place.  However, as you can guess, I\'ve lost my dual boot and essentially my Win2k partition ( cause i\'ts NTFS ) is lost in no mans land.

Is there an easy way for me to get the MBR back to the way it was so that it points to ntloader or something WITHOUT having to reinstall Win2K?  I just need to get my dual boot back.  Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks people.

You first have to install your win98Se , and then with the w2k  disk repair your w2k boot with fast repair .See:

Or open w2k Recovery Console and run \"fixboot\".

By formatting C drive you lost the hidden w2k boot files (boot.ini , ntldr , ntdetect.com ) .
