XP Doesn't see USB External Drive

Here's an easy one I'm sure...just bought an External HD which connects via USB 1.2/2.0 and "My Computer" doesn't list it.  I've tried connecting to 3 differenct computers and while the drive is recognize and installed, it doesn't list it as a drive so I can't config for backups.

I know this must be a Duh! but it's not hitting me!

Make sure you install the drivers that came with the drive.  Although windows will find and install it own drivers they aren't always the optimal ones.  Sometimes it will install things seemingly correctly, but will have limited functionality.  Always try to use manufacturers drivers.
