w?auboot and othb.exe help please.

Hi,  on a windows xp home machine, I've been unsuccessful at removing these two (at least viruses/spyware)

short version of what I've done so far
(all processes run from safe mode)
ad-aware
avg full scan
hijack this!  
microsoft anti-spyware

This machine was infected before I was given the task to 'make it work'  and reinstalling win xp home is not an option currently, as the original media and key has been lost.

I've been fighting with this machine for a couple of weeks, and no matter what I do,  upon reboot,  my firewall (zone alarm free) shows
process 3560 attempting to access the internet, (I of course have blocked it)

and subsequent scans when not in safe mode show  othb.exe running, etc etc.


I'm really stumped here, I've never had such problems cleaning a windows machine.  If y'all can help, I'll be extremly grateful.
