Installing Win XP Pro on Single SATA Drive
« on: December 21, 2003, 03:47:30 PM »
Hi All,

I am having trouble installing Windows to a single SATA drive on the Asus A7V600-X MoBo..

I have done the F6 thing but it after the format of the hard disk it the cannot copy the drivers from the floppy disk. When I skip this then gets to a BSOD once the reboot is done.

I have downloaded the latest VIA VT8237 SATA Drivers.

Can I use one SATA drive (Maxtor 160GB) or must I use 2 and configure RAID ??

Any help would be appreciated...

Cheers

Danny

Im having an issue with the same setup, I have a KT600 soyo board, with a single 120gb seagate SATA drive, the board also uses the same chips the kt600 and the VT8237, it has the about the same issue while trying to install windows, it hangs at Checking disk, after I select to install windows. It does not move, system still respond, caps lock and what not... but the screen stays right where its at.... I Let it sit once for 4 hours, same screen.... Newest drivers, newest BIOS version, tried winXP and 2k... same issue... The drive is recognized by the built in raid utility... still, nothing seems to work.... Any ideas...

Well, it looks like I found a fix for this problem... The SATA drivers from VIA's site suck, terribly... I got some drivers off of MSI's site, and no problems since.... Running some stress tests now, but everything looks good... I also ran a fix that should stop the buffer dump problem of the 8mb cache on these drives, just do a search for Q331958_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe and it should turn up a link for this hot fix from MS... Also ran the seagate utility to partition and format the drive....

Hi, I had a very similar problem with my computer. I have a single SATA drive also and windows would not recognize it. Im trying to recall the steps I used, but I know that you will need to partition your harddrive. Depending on your hard drive, you can probibly find the software to partition it from the manufacturers website. You may want to check out the topic I started and got some replies that may help you. Its at Forum Link Hopefully this will get you started, and considering I am not a computer genius, I hope other more advanced people will reply. Best of Luck

I had the same exact problem on my soyo kt600 dragon plus 1.0 It wouldn't recognize my single sata raptor not showing on boot. I could get through an XP install to the point where it goes to reboot off the hard drive(it would format and install drivers. Upon reboot it would then say no boot drive detected. I actually had to downgrade my bios to the version below. The version I had was ktp23ba3. In the  bios settings there is now no option for raid/ide sata, just enable or disable. It still asks to hit tab to setup raid, but if you just let it boot it works fine.

Old version to use for single sata drive:

ktp32ba1.exe
