Help me please
« on: October 20, 2005, 09:13:35 AM »
I have several pop-ups always popping up on my screen. They are always in internet explorer. Also my McAfee firewall keeps popping up with either C:\program files\adoctor\mspmtapi.exe or some other program wanting access and I keep blocking them as I don't know what they are. My mcafee virus scan tells me i have an Alcan worm but it cannot clean it. How to i restore my PC back to normal? Please help here is my hijackthis log.

I don't see the Alcan Worm, but you may still have the bad files, so let's do the following

Disable SpywareDoctor's realtime protection so it won't interfere with any fixes we are about to try

Next...
==Download and UNZIP to desktop
BFU.zip
So you now have BFU.exe extracted to desktop

Please Download and UNZIP to desktop
p2pnetwork.zip
Make sure you unzip this so you now have p2pnetwork.bfu extracted to desktop

==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Please print this out or save these instructions to notepad for reference

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

In safe mode

Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to p2pnetwork.bfu on your desktop
Right click p2pnetwork.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Let it finish then Exit

=Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O18 - Filter: text/html - {E225AB73-4D7E-45f7-9425-47D2F7C7A8AB} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qllib.dll

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart back to Normal mode
Back in Windows
Run hijackthis again and post a fresh log and also include the Report from Ewidos

There is still a pop-up on my firewall requesting access to the internet for a program called Adoctor the file is shows is c:\Program Files\Adoctor\mspmtapi.exe this is the program that is trying to access the internet. Could this be part of Spyware Doctor??? Also when I defraged my hd last night it says it could not defrag the sections that were part of Adoctor. Now i looked in my program files and control panel and there is no program called Adoctor any other ideas or is this really something I shouldn't worry about?

Is anybody's graphics messed up because of this virus?  Just wondering if it's the worm or my graphics card going.

sassimanx, can I have you do the following
The last hijackthis log that you showed me was from Safe mode

Please restart back to Normal mode and run another scan and save log file and post a fresh log

Also,
Download L2mfix from here

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT:  Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

« Reply #7 on: October 25, 2005, 08:43:13 AM »
Can you do the following

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #4 by typing 4 and then pressing Enter

Then select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT:  Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

NOTE:After restart and L2MFIX finishes scanning for files>>give this time to finish
If a text doesn't open, run the "second.bat" located inside the L2mfix folder

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Nope still having thsoe same two pop-up on my McAfee firewall here is exactly what the first one says:
A program oskustab.exe is requesting access to the internet. Do you want to allow it? Then is gives the path c:\WINDOWS\system32\oskustab.exe
then is says McAfee does not recognize this application.

The second one says the same thing only the program is Internet Explorer and the path is path: c:\Program Files\Adoctor\mspmtapi.exe

I can choose to allow them to access the internet or block them I have clicked on both answers at some point in time or another and they still pop-up and now a few of the pop-up windows in internet explorer are back. Aside from driving me totally nuts the two screens from mcafee seem harmless. Anyhow I hope this help you top isolate the problem thanks

I'm on my way out to work for the day
Can you do the following

Can you run those files through
Jotti's Online Malware scan
Give this site time to load if busy

Use the browse button and navigate to the file on your hard drive
Right click on it  and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please

These files

c:\WINDOWS\system32\oskustab.exe <-file
c:\Program Files\Adoctor\mspmtapi.exe <-file

What other files do you see in the Adoctor folder?

Could I also see a new hijackthis log too, thanks

Path: c:\WINDOWS\system32\oskustab.exe

The only thing even remotely named similiar to this that I found in the WINDOWS\system32 folder was Osk I submitted osk and it came up as ok nothing was found
And accoring to my search for the Adoctor program I couldnt even find an Adoctor folder to look in so that I can run the mspmtapi.exe.
I even tried changing the folder options to show hidden files and folders and I still could not locate either program. So what does this tell me perhaps my pc is possessed by ghost programs???? LOL Perhaps it is some setting on my mcafee that needs to be adjusted to make these go away??

And here is a new Hijackthis Log

Can you open McAfee firewall control panel and look under the settings
I've never used it, but it may be under Internet applications
If you see those 2 entries try removing them from the list

I just pulled up my Mcafee to check it out real close and it says Oskustab.exe is running and that it is an active application that is communicating with a computer at 62.127.103.40 and i traced the IP to honalulu on port 80. it also shows my internet explorer as communicating with the same ip address on port 80. I just blocked that IP address and the oskustab.exe program is no longer running. I still havent found anything on the mspmtapi.exe however. Doing this has not stopped the pop-up however dammit! This thing is gonna drive me nuts! I am right in the middle of the semester of online college classes so I can conceiveably wipe my pc and reformat. yup that is out of the question at this time LOL Anyhow I thought I would post this silly bit of extra information thinking maybe it would help you to help me fix this thing. Thanks a million

Can you run an online virus scan at Panda's please
The link is in my siganture below
Select to scan Local Disks

When the scan is done, if anything is found you will have the option to save a report
Can you do that and post the findings back here

I can't find anything on those 2 files
and this is where that ip address leads me too

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=62.127.103.40
Sweden telenor

Doesn't look right, does it?
I got you pegged as a Verizon user

Can you do the following

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders,cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup! 4.0

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Close down your browser window
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

==Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
* Save it to your desktop or a folder

Run Pocket KillBox.exe

In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing
Control + C

Killbox files to highlight between dotted lines
===================================================
c:\WINDOWS\system32\oskustab.exe
c:\Program Files\Adoctor\mspmtapi.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Angel\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\JE0BVLKH\upexactpop[1].html
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0DE34HUJ\pivotal_3[1].htm
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\SZXYW3J2\CAGFEU7K.HTM

===================================================
*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
Don't worry about file not found messages if you get them

If your computer doesn't restart
Restart it now manually

Back in Windows
Open McAfee and remove those 2 entries from the list if found

Post back and let me know how things are running
Can you post another hijackthis log also
Note: on reboot the computer may start a little slower as we are cleaning your prefetch folder
It will increase on next bootup
We want to clean the prefetch folder  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Well, I did what you told me to and NO SUCH LUCK lol I think I will just have to wait for this semester of online classes to end the reformat if I really want to get rid of this thing eh? I have no pop-up tho so thank you for that! however I di still have the mcafee pop-ups I might try getting another firewall and having two on my system maybe one might kill what the other cant LOL anyhow I really appreciate all the time you have taken on my case and yes you have me pegged right as bing a verizon user. I do have to tell you tho that I noticed that when I blocked the ip address I gave you it came back still with a different ip address the last set of numbers went from 40 to 40 LOL so i Went into mcafee and blocked the whole range that is gave when I used my mcafee to trace the ip but alas no such luck it still pops up during the typing of a very important class assignment LOL anyhow Happy Halloween and perhaps we can lick this without a reformat but if not oh well I can always reformat in Decenber when the class is over http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
